Gap

Also known as: price gap, gap up, gap down

A gap is an empty space on the chart where price opens well above or below the prior close, usually on overnight news. Gaps can signal strong momentum (and sometimes get “filled” as price returns). Common types: breakaway, runaway and exhaustion gaps.
