Face Value

Also known as: par value, nominal value

Face value (or par value) is the original nominal value of a share set by the company (commonly ₹1, ₹2 or ₹10 in India). It’s an accounting figure — dividends are often quoted as a percentage of it — and has little to do with the market price you actually pay.
