Book Value

Also known as: net book value

Book value is a company’s assets minus its liabilities — the shareholders’ equity recorded on the books. Per share, it’s a rough floor for what the business is “worth” on paper. Comparing price to book value (the P/B ratio) hints at how cheap or dear a stock is.
