Margin

Also known as: span margin, margin call

Margin is the collateral you must post to open and hold a leveraged position (in futures or short options). It’s the source of leverage — a fraction of the position’s value. In India it’s computed by SPAN plus an exposure margin, and it *rises* when volatility spikes, which can trigger a margin call.
