Inflation is the general increase in prices over time, meaning the same money buys less each year. It makes “safe” cash quietly unsafe — at ~6% inflation, money loses about half its value in ~12 years. The real benchmark for any investment isn’t zero, it’s the inflation rate; only above-inflation returns build wealth.
