The expense ratio is the yearly fee a fund deducts from your investment, expressed as a percentage. It’s skimmed quietly from the NAV, so you never see a bill — which is why it’s easy to ignore. Even a 1% difference compounds into a large drag over decades; favour low-cost funds.
