Bull & Bear Market

A bull market is a sustained rise in prices amid optimism; a bear market is a sustained decline (commonly defined as a 20%+ fall) amid pessimism. They reflect the long swings of the market cycle between greed and fear. Both feel permanent at their extremes, yet markets have historically cycled through and recovered from every bear market so far.
